Honourable Minister, Rotimi C. Amaechi Visited Indonesia

The Honourable Minister of the Federal Ministry of Transportation and Aviation, Hon. Rotimi Chibuike Amaechi visited the Republic of Indonesia from 11-15 October, 2017 to attend the 32nd Trade Expo Indonesia (TEI) which was held at the International Convention Exhibition Centre (ICE) Tangerang, Banten, Indonesia. The Trade Expo which had the theme “Global Partners for Sustainable Resources” was declared opened by His Excellency President Joko Widodo of the Republic of Indonesia. The Hon. Minister who led a five man delegation to the Trade Expo used the opportunity of the event to highlight the numerous trade and investment potentials in Nigeria, particularly in the transportation sector. The Minister also held bilateral meetings with host Ministers of Transportation and Trade, H.E. Budi Karya and H.E. Enggartiasto Lukita on the sidelines of the Trade Expo. The Ministers recognised the cordial relations subsisting between Nigeria and Indonesia and called for more collaboration between the two countries in the areas of Trade and Investment, Capacity Building, Student Exchange, Technical Cooperation and People to People Business Exchanges. The similarities between Nigeria and Indonesia were also acknowledged by the Ministers who expressed hope that the two countries will continue to collaborate in key sectors to further strengthen existing economic relations. One of the positive outcomes of the meeting was Honourable Minister Amaechi’s expression of his Ministry’s readiness to partner with interested Indonesian companies under the platform of the public private partnership initiative, with a view to encourage foreign direct investments in the Transportation and Aviation sub-sectors in Nigeria. He also noted that Nigeria is very much interested in embracing and creating enabling environment for companies wishing to establish businesses in the country. While highlighting the various economic packages already put in place by the Nigerian government to facilitate the ease of doing business in the country, the Honourable Minister noted that Indonesia should not only focus on selling its finished products in Nigeria, but consider establishing production plants for such products in the country. He therefore urged prospective investors to take advantage of the trade incentives that have been made available in line with the diversification drive of the Federal Government. At the Business Forum held on the margins of the Trade Expo, Honourable Minister Amaechi made a brief presentation on the various plans and ongoing infrastructural development projects of his Ministry. In addition, Eight (8) Indonesian companies which included PT WIKA, PT PELINDO II, PT. INKA, Indonesian Exim Bank, etc. and other prospective investors also made short presentations on their company profiles. The Business Forum organized by host Ministries of Trade and Foreign Affairs was coordinated by the Indonesian Ambassador to Nigeria, H. E. Harry Purwanto. The event which afforded various Indonesian investors the opportunity to showcase their expertise in different sectors also enabled participants to establish business networking to enhance their investment potentials, particularly those seeking to establish business ventures in Nigeria. In addition, in a bid to encourage and facilitate Business - Business interaction between Nigeria and Indonesia under the public private partnership initiative, the delegation of the Honourable Minister paid a working visit to the factory of PT INKA, an indigenous Railway Company located in Madiun, East Java Province. The Honourable Minister particularly expressed satisfaction on the high quality and design of the train coaches manufactured by the company and based on the positive outcome of the visit, the Honourable Minister indicated interest to further collaborate with PT INKA, including the procurement of passenger train coaches for use in Nigeria.
